Spain suspects Israel of violating humanitarian law in Gaza
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said Madrid condemned the Hamas attack on Israel in early October.
In an interview with TVE, he noted that the Spanish side maintains good relations with the Jewish state, but doubts the legality of some of its steps in the Gaza Strip.
“We must tell Israel that it must continue its actions on the basis of international humanitarian law. Given what we see and the growing number of [victims], especially children, I have frank doubts that it [Israel] is complying with this international humanitarian law,” Sanchez explained.
He added that Madrid favours a long-term solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict through the creation of an independent Palestine. Sanchez emphasized that it is in Europe’s interests to resolve this issue and stabilize the situation in the region.
