US awaits Syrian response to key conditions before considering sanctions relief
The United States is awaiting Syria’s response to several conditions before any discussion on easing or lifting sanctions can begin, a senior State Department official has said.
Speaking at a press briefing, State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said that while the situation remains fluid, Washington is closely monitoring developments and remains prepared to respond to any shifts in the political landscape, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
“The circumstances continue to evolve. We are awaiting their answers to a number of questions,” Bruce said.
“This situation demands constant monitoring and engagement – we take any developments very seriously.”
However, she stressed that it is too early to speak of any potential sanctions relief in the near term.
Her remarks come as the US maintains pressure on Damascus, urging the Syrian government to meet specific criteria that would allow for a reassessment of its current policy stance.
