Sri Lanka mobilises emergency response for passengers and airlines
On Saturday, February 28, Sri Lanka activated an emergency action plan to manage disruptions to air travel following the closure of airspace in the Middle East amid escalating regional conflict. The closures have affected numerous airline routes in the region.
According to Xinhua, Daminda Rambukwella, Director General of Civil Aviation, is leading a support program for passengers and aircraft arriving in and departing from the country. Flights operated by SriLankan Airlines and FitsAir to affected regions have been temporarily suspended, and passengers are advised to confirm schedules with their airlines or travel agents.
Officials emphasised that the emergency plan has been coordinated with the Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation and other relevant authorities.
Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport is ready to accommodate diverted flights if necessary. Authorities have urged the public to remain calm during the disruptions.
