Starlink launches affordable $10/month satellite internet plan for occasional users
SpaceX has unveiled a new, highly affordable Starlink satellite Internet plan aimed at occasional users, such as travellers, campers, or those who need a backup internet source.
The new plan is five times cheaper than the previous options and is designed to cater to those who don't require continuous connectivity, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The new Starlink Roam Internet plan is priced at just $10 per month, offering 10 GB of full-speed data. Once the data is used up, users are charged $2 per additional gigabyte. This plan is ideal for those who only need internet access on the go or as a backup, and it can be maintained indefinitely without the need to cancel it when not in use.
This affordable option contrasts with the next tier, which costs $50 per month for 50 GB of high-speed data. The most expensive Starlink plan costs $165 per month for unlimited roaming data. Given these options, the $10/month plan is proving popular among occasional users who appreciate the low cost and flexibility.
Many users have expressed that they may never cancel their subscription, opting to keep a Starlink dish in their vehicle just in case they need internet while travelling. However, the Starlink Standard Kit dish remains priced at $349, though retailers like Best Buy are offering a $120 discount for the Starlink Mini Kit.
For those who already own a Starlink dish, this new budget-friendly plan offers great value, especially for those who don’t require regular access but want the peace of mind of having backup internet.
Starlink, the satellite internet service developed by SpaceX, was designed to offer high-speed internet in remote and underserved areas. The project was announced in 2015, and by 2019, SpaceX had launched its first batch of satellites.
By 2020, Starlink began offering beta service, and by 2021, the service rapidly expanded. As of February 2025, Starlink operates more than 7,000 satellites and has plans to deploy up to 12,000, providing global broadband coverage with a focus on rural and disaster-stricken areas.
With this new plan, SpaceX continues to make internet access more accessible to a wider audience, particularly in areas where traditional broadband options are scarce.
