Taiwan's army spots 36 Chinese warplanes approaching island
04 August 2024 13:41
Taiwan's defense ministry has reported the approach of 36 aircraft and 12 ships of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) to the island.
This is stated in a statement posted on the ministry's X page (formerly Twitter), Caliber.Az reports.
According to the post, 31 aircraft crossed the so-called midline of the Taiwan Strait, which the island considers an informal border with mainland China. Air targets included PLA fighter jets, drones and helicopters.
Taiwan has been ruled by its own administration since 1949, when remnants of the Kuomintang forces led by Chiang Kai-shek (1887-1975) fled there after being defeated in China's civil war. Beijing considers Taiwan to be one of the PRC's provinces.
