Tehran briefs Doha on progress in Iran–US nuclear negotiations
The foreign ministers of Iran and Qatar discussed regional developments and ongoing nuclear negotiations during a telephone conversation held on February 28.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi spoke with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, who also serves as Qatar’s prime minister and minister of foreign affairs. The sides reviewed current regional events and other issues of mutual interest, according to a statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s press service.
During the call, Araghchi thanked Qatar and other regional states for their attention to the collective interests of Middle Eastern countries and briefed Doha on progress in negotiations between Iran and the United States regarding Tehran’s nuclear program.
Both ministers emphasised the importance of continuing diplomatic engagement aimed at maintaining peace and stability across the region.
The discussion followed the conclusion of the third round of indirect talks between Tehran and Washington, which ended in Geneva on February 26. The negotiations were mediated by Oman’s foreign minister and included US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, as well as Iran’s top diplomat. The two sides agreed to resume technical-level discussions next week in Vienna while reviewing proposals and consulting with their respective capitals.
