Turkic states set priorities for cultural cooperation PHOTO

28 November 2025 18:22

Ministers of culture from Turkic-speaking countries gathered in Aktau for the 42nd meeting of the TURKSOY Council, outlining key priorities for developing cultural ties across the region.

According to AZERTAC, citing Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Culture and Information, the session reviewed the final documents and presidential directives issued at the 12th Summit of the Organisation of Turkic States in Gabala. Delegates also agreed to establish a working group to enhance TURKSOY’s operations in 2026.

The meeting concluded the “Aktau – Cultural Capital of the Turkic World” year, with Kazakhstan’s Culture and Information Minister, Aida Balayeva, noting the extensive activities carried out under the programme.

TURKSOY Secretary-General Sultan Raev highlighted the organisation’s achievements this year, which included the participation of over 3,000 artists and the publication of hundreds of print and digital materials.

“This year also marked a historic moment: heads of state emphasised the need to strengthen TURKSOY in line with contemporary challenges, instructing the Secretariat to lead this work. This is not merely a decision, but a strategic milestone shaping the future of cultural cooperation in the Turkic world,” he said.

Balayeva also handed over the role of acting TURKSOY coordinator to her Uzbek counterpart, Ozodbek Nazarbekov, ahead of Andijan assuming the title of Cultural Capital of the Turkic World in 2026.

The session concluded with the adoption of a declaration by TURKSOY member states. Azerbaijan was represented at the meeting by Deputy Minister of Culture Murad Huseynov.

Founded to unite Turkic countries and regions, TURKSOY seeks to preserve, promote and pass on shared material and cultural values to future generations.
