Baku discusses creation of Union of Turkic composers

20 September 2026 13:08

The creation of a Union of Turkic Composers is being discussed in Baku as part of events dedicated to the Congress of Composers of the Turkic World.

The initiative is among the issues addressed at a roundtable titled “Formation and Development of Composer Schools of Turkic Peoples in Search of Cultural Identity,” which also examines contemporary developments in musical art, state media reports.

The first discussion focuses on the development of composer schools among Turkic peoples and the interaction between the archaic and the modern in the context of postmodernism.

Another session addresses the development of musicology in the digital age, while participants consider current challenges and prospects for further cooperation, including the establishment of the Union of Turkic Composers.

Particular attention is being paid to the need for deeper study of the musical heritage of Turkic peoples and stronger creative ties among them. Participants note that shared cultural values and musical heritage create broad opportunities for joint creative projects.

The discussions also cover the common epic heritage of Turkic peoples, including “Koroghlu” and “Dede Gorgud.” Participants emphasize the importance of preserving these works and presenting them as part of the shared cultural heritage of the Turkic world.

Representatives of Hungary are also taking part in the roundtable, sharing their perspectives on Turkic heritage and its expression in musical culture.
