Türkiye, Iran to sign 10 cooperation agreements

03 January 2024 09:10

Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi is scheduled to visit Türkiye on January 4.

Caliber.Az reports citing Turkish media that within the framework of the visit, along with discussing many bilateral and regional issues, Türkiye and Iran are expected to take concrete steps towards cooperation, particularly in counter-terrorism.

Another major focus of the talks is expected to be bilateral trade, which stood at $22 billion in 2012 but fell to 6 billion due to sanctions and the pandemic. The two sides plan to increase that figure to $30 billion.

According to the Turkish Trade Ministry, Turkish contracting companies have implemented 56 projects in Iran worth $4.6 billion. The Joint Economic Commission meeting in Tehran at the end of January is expected to intensify efforts towards developing trade between the two countries.

A total of ten agreements are expected to be signed between the two countries during the visit.
