MP: Opposition seeks to stir unrest ahead of Georgia's elections
The opposition, both within and outside Georgia, is intensifying efforts to amplify public discontent against the current government ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Maka Bochorishvili, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Integration with Europe, made this statement while commenting on a report from the Georgian State Security Service (SGB), Caliber.Az informs, citing Georgian media
According to the SGB, political groups are allegedly preparing to release falsified video and audio content, created using artificial intelligence, featuring government officials. The goal is to destabilize the country.
"Instead of focusing on voter engagement, the opposition is working to create scenarios that could influence the election outcome," Bochorishvili stated.
She added that opposition tactics involve actions both inside and outside the country, all aimed at fueling unrest and dissatisfaction toward the government.
The SGB’s October 16 statement warned that the anticipated fake recordings aim to provoke conflict between state institutions, strain relations with the Orthodox Church, and damage ties with Western partners. The recordings are expected to be falsely presented as leaks from the SGB, intended to discredit the agency and sow discord.
The ultimate objective is to foster protest sentiments and create pockets of instability in Georgia for political gain, according to the SGB, which assured that it is closely monitoring these activities and will take necessary legal action if required.
