Slovak PM Fico voices strong support for Türkiye’s EU aspirations
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has voiced his country’s support for Türkiye’s bid to join the European Union, stating that he hopes the process will be finalized swiftly.
“I wish for Türkiye’s aspiration for full EU membership to be realized as soon as possible. Slovakia fully supports this process," Fico said, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara, Fico underscored Türkiye’s significant role on the global stage, describing it as both a major economic power and an influential player in international politics.
“Türkiye is a very prominent economic and international political actor,” he added.
Türkiye and Slovakia have signed multiple agreements to enhance cooperation in areas including military collaboration, the defence industry, and culture, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced on January 20.
"Today, we have also signed agreements between our ministries and institutions in various fields such as military cooperation, defence industry, and culture. I believe these documents will strengthen our ties and take our cooperation to even greater levels," Erdoğan said during a joint press conference with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
Erdoğan noted the growing trade and investment between the two countries, adding, "This trend shows us that we will soon achieve and surpass our joint target of 5 billion US dollars." The leaders also discussed enhancing defence ties through specific projects.
President Erdoğan hosted Prime Minister Fico in the Turkish capital on January 20 to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation, as well as Türkiye’s EU accession process.
