Russia intercepts 55 Ukrainian drones in overnight strikes across multiple regions
During the past night, Russian air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 55 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) across several regions.
The Bryansk Region accounted for the largest number, with 22 drones intercepted. In the Rostov Region, 12 drones were destroyed, while 10 were neutralized over the Smolensk Region, Caliber.Az reports via Russian Defence Ministry.
Six drones were intercepted in the Voronezh Region, four in the Saratov Region, and one in the Kursk Region.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Air Force claimed it successfully shot down 93 of the 141 drones launched by Russia during extensive overnight attacks. It further reported that 47 drones were "lost," while two returned to Russian territory. Meanwhile, Russia stated that it had destroyed 31 Ukrainian drones, which it said were aimed at industrial sites in Tatarstan, approximately 1,000km (600 miles) from the Ukrainian border. Authorities confirmed there were no casualties or reported damage from the strikes.
In the Bryansk region, which borders Ukraine, the local governor, Alexander Bogomaz, reported that Russian forces neutralized 14 Ukrainian drones. He also alleged that Kyiv had fired four United States-made HIMARS missiles at targets in the area, further escalating cross-border hostilities.
On the battlefield, Russia’s Ministry of Defence announced the capture of two villages in eastern Ukraine—Shevchenko and Novoiehorivka. Shevchenko is strategically located a few kilometres from Pokrovsk, a critical supply hub for Ukraine’s forces.
