Russia’s spy chief: EU becoming increasingly hostile to Moscow

04 September 2026 18:10

The European Union is becoming increasingly aggressive toward Russia and the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Director Sergey Naryshkin has claimed.

Speaking at a press conference following the 22nd Meeting of Heads of Security and Intelligence Services of the CIS countries, Naryshkin alleged that Russian forces had identified military personnel from EU member states in the combat zone in Ukraine, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

“We detect military personnel from European Union countries on the battlefield. But the Russian Federation has sufficient strength, capabilities and resources, including military-technical resources, to ensure the security of our state,” Naryshkin said.

He further accused EU countries of being “practically fully” involved in the conflict on Ukraine’s side by providing weapons, ammunition and intelligence.

“The European Union is, unfortunately, turning into a Russophobic bloc, determined to pursue an aggressive policy — both toward our state and toward our allies and partners,” the SVR chief added.
