Chief of Iran’s Basij says US has "no choice but to bow"

The US has "no choice but to bow" before the Iranian people, says Hossein Taeb, head of the Basij organisation within Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Taeb accused the United States of attacking Iran twice while negotiations were ongoing because it believed Tehran was weak and could be pressured into making concessions, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iran International.

“We never asked for a ceasefire or negotiations,” he added. “Washington must comply with the terms of an existing memorandum of understanding.”

Although the most intense fighting between the countries has subsided, periodic exchanges of fire continue.

On September 1, the United States launched airstrikes against Iran, targeting what Washington said were military positions along Iran's coast.

The strikes were described by U.S. officials as retaliation for Iranian attacks on commercial shipping in and around the Strait of Hormuz.

The escalation has added to concerns over the security of one of the world's most important oil transit routes and has contributed to a sharp rise in crude prices, with markets reaching levels not seen since July.
