Media: Two Russian State Duma candidates detained in Moscow PHOTO

Two State Duma candidates from Russia’s opposition Yabloko party have been detained or asked to accompany law enforcement officers to police stations in Moscow, the party’s press service confirmed.

Anna Shatunovskaya-Burno, Yabloko’s candidate in the Preobrazhensky single-member constituency No. 204, was detained while leaving her home, according to the party. She was being taken to the Yakimanka police station, while the reasons for her detention remained unclear, Caliber.Az rteports, citing Russian media.

Another Yabloko candidate, Grigory Grishin, who is running in the Leningradsky single-member constituency No. 197, was approached by three men in civilian clothes and asked to accompany them to the Akademichesky police station to have an administrative report drawn up.

The specific administrative offense cited in Grishin’s case was not disclosed.

Shatunovskaya-Burno graduated from the law faculty of Moscow State University in 1996. She has worked at Russia’s Ministry of Justice and Foreign Ministry, as well as the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of the CIS.

She currently serves as an adviser to the development director at the Centre for Assistance to Criminal Justice Reform. In 2024, she attempted to run for the Moscow City Duma but was denied registration.

Grishin is Deputy Chairman of Yabloko’s Moscow Region branch. He holds a PhD in philology and teaches Russian language and literature. He has also worked as a documentary filmmaker.
