Russia, Uzbekistan adopt military cooperation documents effective until 2030
On January 22, Russia’s and Uzbekistan’s Defence Ministers, Andrei Belousov and Shukhrat Kholmukhamedov signed a cooperation plan for 2025 and a strategic partnership program for military cooperation between the two countries for 2026-2030 in Tashkent.
The Russian defence minister emphasized that "Russia and Uzbekistan are strategic partners and long-time friends," Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Belousov says the cooperation between Moscow and Tashkent "has reached a high level of mutual understanding and continues to expand."
"This is especially important in the current international situation. The heads of Russia and Uzbekistan pay great attention to developing ties between the defense ministries of the two countries. Our joint work has a significant impact on ensuring security in the Central Asian region, which is why we attach great importance to today’s meeting," Belousov stated.
The signing ceremony took place as part of the official visit of the Russian defence minister to Uzbekistan. At the start of the negotiations, Belousov expressed his pleasure at the meeting and his personal acquaintance with his colleague, thanking him for the invitation to visit Tashkent and the warm welcome.
"Once again, I would like to congratulate you on your appointment as the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Uzbekistan and wish you success in this important role," Belousov told Khalmukhamedov.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the plan of cooperation between the defense ministries of Russia and Uzbekistan for 2025 includes 50 joint activities in all areas of activity of the military departments of the two countries.
On December 19, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation and agreed to continue close cooperation between the intelligence services of the two states in countering terrorism.
