Russia confirms talks with Syria on military cooperation, deployment

Russia-Syria cooperation is developing actively, with ongoing efforts to expand bilateral engagement, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova told a briefing.

“Work aimed at expanding multifaceted cooperation between our countries continues. These efforts involve both government agencies and business circles in Russia and Syria,” the diplomat said.

Zakharova noted that Moscow is also holding discussions with Syrian partners regarding Russia’s military presence in Syria, including in the context of the “possible reformatting of personnel at Russian military facilities.”

She added, however, that the matter falls under the jurisdiction of the Russian Ministry of Defence.
