Armenian opposition leader questioned in seven-year-old case

10 June 2026 17:29

Armenian opposition leader and businessman Gagik Tsarukyan was questioned by the country’s Investigative Committee on June 9 as part of an investigation into a case dating back seven years, his lawyer said.

As Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media, Tsarukyan’s attorney, Emin Khachatryan, said the opposition figure was summoned for questioning and denies all allegations against him.

“Yesterday, Gagik Tsarukyan was questioned by the Investigative Committee. He rejects the charges brought against him,” Khachatryan said.

The lawyer added that the newly opened case relates to events that allegedly took place seven years ago.

Earlier on June 9, Armenia’s Prosecutor General’s Office announced that criminal proceedings had been initiated against Tsarukyan under an article concerning large-scale tax evasion.

Tsarukyan, leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party and a participant in Armenia’s parliamentary elections held on June 7, has been placed under a travel restriction as the investigation proceeds.
