Polling stations in Armenia’s parliamentary elections have closed nationwide, marking the end of voting across the country.

According to Armenian media cited by Caliber.Az, electoral procedures will continue for those still present at polling locations at the moment of closure, allowing voters already in line within station premises to cast their ballots.

Throughout the day, Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Committee reported the detention of several dozen individuals associated with opposition forces. These individuals are suspected of committing pre-election offences, according to the authorities.

Voter participation figures released earlier indicated that, as of 17:00, turnout had reached 48.92%, with a total of 1,224,957 citizens having voted.

Following the closure of polling stations, the vote-counting process has commenced across the country, as election officials begin tabulating the results.

19:55

Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Committee has reported uncovering a new alleged case of voter bribery, outlining a scheme involving promises made to Armenian citizens living abroad.

According to the investigation, supporters of the “Strong Armenia” bloc, acting in coordination with other individuals, allegedly approached a married couple—Armenian nationals residing in Russia—with an offer tied to the upcoming National Assembly elections. The couple’s sons had been convicted in the Russian Federation on charges of drug possession, Caliber.Az reports.

Investigators state that the individuals promised to facilitate both the release of the sons and their transfer to Armenia. In return, the couple was expected to cast their votes in favour of the “Strong Armenia” bloc and to encourage additional voters to do the same.

Authorities have launched a criminal case in connection with the allegations. Several suspects have already been detained, and law enforcement bodies have carried out the necessary procedural steps as part of the investigation.

The Anti-Corruption Committee confirmed that the preliminary investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to establish the full scope of the case.

19:53

Armenia’s Investigative Committee has reported the detention of a trusted representative of the “Strong Armenia” bloc, identified as A. H.

As reported by Caliber.Az, according to the agency, A. H. instructed a group of individuals to vote for a political force under a specific number on the ballot paper.

He was detained by officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on the basis of reasonable suspicion of committing a crime.

A criminal case has been initiated under Part 1 of Article 210 of Armenia’s Criminal Code (“Obstruction of the exercise of electoral rights, as well as the exercise of rights or duties of persons participating in elections”).

A preliminary investigation is ongoing.

19:06

The Head of the Office of the Prime Minister of Armenia and a member of the Civil Contract party board, Arayik Harutyunyan, has called on citizens to take more active part in the parliamentary elections.

As reported by Caliber.Az, Harutyunyan made the statement during a press conference held at the headquarters of the Civil Contract party.

“We call on citizens to be more active in participating in the elections in the coming hours, and I am confident that after 20:00, when the election results are summed up, we will once again record that democracy in Armenia has taken another step forward, and our institutions are functioning much better than, for example, five years ago,” Harutyunyan said.

18:58

The Chair of Georgia’s Central Election Commission has highly praised the preparations for the elections in Armenia, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

“Based on meetings with international organisations and observers, it can be said that a great deal of work has been carried out in preparation for the elections, and we hope this will yield results – that the elections will be well organised, professional and transparent. I wish success to the electoral administration,” said Giorgi Kalandarishvili.

He added that Georgian observers are monitoring all stages of the elections: “The observers will present their recommendations to the electoral administration of Armenia.”

It should be noted that voter turnout in Armenia’s parliamentary elections stood at 48.92% as of 17:00.

18:46

The Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia has reported the exposure and neutralisation of a criminal vote-buying scheme.

According to the agency, as reported by Caliber.Az, around 45 citizens were involved in the vote-buying scheme, with a total amount of 7.5 million drams (more than $20,000).

As part of the case, seven people have been arrested.

18:06

As of 17:00, voter turnout in Armenia’s parliamentary elections stood at 48.92%, the country’s Central Election Commission (CEC) reported.

17:55

By 17:00, Armenia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs said it had received 57 reports of possible violations during the parliamentary elections.

Among them were 19 allegations of double voting, 15 reports of breaches of ballot secrecy, 2 cases of obstruction of voting rights, as well as one case each involving alleged vote-buying and carrying a weapon, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.

According to the ministry, 14 individuals have been detained as part of ongoing checks and investigative procedures.

17:50

17:39

The Armenian leader cast his ballot at one of the polling stations in the capital Yerevan, Caliber.Az reports per Armenian media.

17:36

A senior Armenian government representative, Arusyak Julhakyan, has stated that the logic of post-election processes only emerges in cases of electoral fraud.

According to her, since 2018 the country has “closed the page of electoral falsification,” and in conditions of fair voting, post-election developments are not possible, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.

“Of course, a few people may decide that they need to take to the streets, but this cannot in any way generate any process, because in society there cannot be a perception that the elections have been falsified,” Julhakyan said.

At the same time, she noted that some opposition forces are demonstrating readiness to accept the will of voters and “reconcile themselves with the results of the vote.”

“I think that today another opposition leader — the Kaluga oligarch Samvel Karapetyan — has already spoken in a tone of retreat. And it seems they have come to terms with the idea that the people’s vote and the people’s choice must be respected. In all other cases, post-election processes may occur, but there can also be a counter-reaction to post-election processes,” she added.

Earlier, Russian-Armenian businessman and leader of the “Strong Armenia” party, Samvel Karapetyan, stated that the outcome of the elections depends solely on the decision of the people. He noted that the likelihood of the current authorities winning is, in his view, low, but said that in the event of a different result he would also accept the voters’ choice.

17:23

The head of the Armenian Prime Minister’s Office and board member of the Civil Contract Party, Arayik Harutyunyan, has called on citizens to participate more actively in the ongoing parliamentary elections.

“We call on citizens to participate more actively in the elections in the coming hours, and I am confident that after 20:00, when the election results are summarized, we will once again note that democracy in Armenia has taken another step forward, and our institutions are functioning much better than, for example, five years ago,” he said during a press conference at the headquarters of the Civil Contract Party.

17:04

Since April 2026 and as of 15:00 on June 7, Armenia’s Investigative Committee has opened 117 criminal cases related to election-related offences, according to Armenian media.

Criminal prosecution has been initiated against 86 individuals, the authorities said.

According to the agency, the cases include charges related to obstructing electoral rights and the work of election commissions, coercion in campaigning or obstruction of campaigning, repeat voting or voting on behalf of another person, violation of ballot secrecy, and obstruction of public rallies.

Investigations are also underway into cases involving concealment of information, receiving and giving electoral bribes, as well as violations of the ban on charitable activities during election periods.

Nine criminal cases involving 16 individuals have already been submitted to court. As part of the investigations, around 1,200 people have been questioned and approximately 280 searches have been conducted.

16:52

The head of the Armenian Prime Minister’s Office Arayik Harutyunyan has alleged that those involved in election fraud typically prepare related processes in advance, while leaving the actual distribution of bribes until the final days and hours before voting, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

“You have heard dozens of audio recordings that served as grounds for arrests and detentions. And if I am not mistaken, several dozen cases have already been initiated. There are about 200 detained individuals. And essentially, if you compare all these figures, it shows that your claim that we left everything to the last moment and that law enforcement is acting at the last moment does not correspond to reality.

Such statements are also made by political opponents, because it is obvious that both the atmosphere and the sociological surveys we had and still have indicate that their position is not favorable. And their rhetoric, which is especially present in recent days, shows that they are trying to find grounds for their defeat in this entire flow of propaganda disinformation.

And the scale is, in fact, large, because it appears that those involved in this process have more money and have allocated more funds, and not only them, but also some other foreign forces,” Arutyunyan stated.

16:48

Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has expressed support for limiting voting rights in national elections for citizens who have been living abroad for extended periods.

While acknowledging its legality, Mirzoyan challenged the political legitimacy of such participation,Caliber.Az reports per Armenian media.

“From a legal standpoint, this is normal. <...> And it is possible — to live in another country for several years, then come for a few hours, vote and leave. But from a political point of view, this is very irresponsible, it is about the art of ‘not caring about all of us’, and such people cannot be understood,” he told journalists.

He added that national legislation is continuously subject to revision and improvement. “The Electoral Code, I am confident, will need improvement,” Mirzoyan said.

16:39

Three people have been detained on suspicion of offering pre-election bribes and transferred to the Shirak regional department of the Criminal Police, Armenia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs announced.

Investigations into the circumstances of the case are ongoing.

16:31

Head of the Prime Minister’s office of Armenia Arayik Harutyunyan stated that the government generally views the conduct of the parliamentary elections positively.

“We also note that some colleagues and some media outlets are creating excessive hype around the elections — we know their objectives,” he added, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

He noted that most of the reported signals are not based on facts, while authorities are responding in cases where violations are confirmed.

“In all those cases where there are real facts, both we and law enforcement are reacting accordingly,” Harutyunyan stressed.

15:55

Daniel Ioannisyan, a representative of the Independent Observer coalition and the Union of Informed Citizens public organization, has alleged that an election observer from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) engaged in direct political campaigning during the country’s parliamentary elections.

Ioannisyan described the incident as potentially unprecedented, claiming that the observer publicly endorsed a political force through posts on Facebook, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

“We witnessed an incident that is probably without precedent. I do not recall any observer from the CIS — that is, an international observer — who has directly campaigned on their Facebook page, openly supporting one of the political forces participating in the election,” Ioannisyan said.

He added that the matter had been formally reported to Armenia’s Central Election Commission (CEC), with a request to review the observer’s accreditation status. Ioannisyan expressed hope that the commission would act swiftly in examining the complaint.

When asked whether relevant instructions had already been issued by the Ministry of Defence leadership or Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Papikyan replied: “We are on vacation.”

Papikyan himself also participated in the parliamentary vote, casting his ballot at one of the polling stations.

Armenian Justice Minister Srbuhi Galyan said that around 1,000 voters in the country are currently under house arrest, with approximately 500 of them expressing a desire to participate in the parliamentary elections.

According to the minister, as of 13:00, roughly half of those voters had already cast their ballots. She noted that penitentiary service officers are accompanying the individuals to polling stations, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

Responding to a question about whether the detention of opposition figures could affect the fairness of the elections, Galyan said that “law enforcement agencies must respond to every crime, because it is crime itself that casts a shadow over the integrity of the elections.”

13:51

Armenian citizens received calls and messages from foreign phone numbers and email addresses containing false information about alleged bombs placed at several polling stations.
