Armenia’s justice minister says draft of new constitution yet to be ready
Armenia’s draft new constitution is not yet ready for publication and is still under review, Srbuhi Galyan, Justice Minister, has stated.
Speaking to journalists at the National Assembly, she said further consultations are needed on the draft text, Caliber.Az reports.
“We are waiting for the opinions of some of our colleagues who did not manage to submit their comments. We will need about two weeks to consolidate them, after which we will hold another discussion and decide whether the text is ready for publication or not. This is not a unilateral decision,” she added.
She recalled that in 2025 she had said the draft constitution would be ready before the next elections, and in March 2026 she stated it would be published before parliamentary elections.
Galyan also noted that political parties in Armenia could be barred from elections if serious criminal violations are recorded among their representatives, adding that such rules would be reflected in the new draft constitution.
