Türkiye leases Homs port in Libya for 99 years for military base

Türkiye has leased the port of Homs in northwestern Libya for 99 years to set up a military base there.

"Türkiye has reached an important agreement with Libya to lease the port of Al-Homs for 99 years to establish a military base," TGRT TV channel reports with reference to the Turkish Center for Maritime and Global Strategies.

According to military analysts, the move will strengthen Ankara's sovereignty in the Eastern Mediterranean, strengthen control over Turkish territorial waters and ensure the safety of trade routes.

The Turkish military intends to deploy combat drones and air defence systems at the new military base.
