Ukrainian president visits Kherson on third anniversary of liberation
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has arrived in Kherson, marking the third anniversary of the city’s liberation from Russian occupation.
In a message to Ukrainians, Zelenskyy reflected on the emotions surrounding the city’s return to Ukrainian control, Ukrainian media reports, citing a post by the president on Telegram.
He wrote, “We remember the joy, the tears, the embraces. The gratitude you feel when you see your own people returning. The occupiers fled Kherson thanks to the strength of our people.”
Kherson had been under Russian military occupation since March 2, 2022. After over eight months of temporary control, Ukrainian Defence Forces launched a campaign to reclaim the city in September of that year. By November 11, 2022, Ukrainian troops had re-entered Kherson, successfully restoring it under Ukraine’s authority
