US blames Hezbollah for rocket attack on Israeli settlement
The Washington administration has attributed the July 27 rocket attack on the Druze settlement of Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights to the Shiite Hezbollah movement.
This attack, which tragically resulted in the deaths of several children playing soccer, has intensified tensions in the region, Caliber.Az reports, citing the White House press service.
In a statement, a US government spokesperson said, "We have been in continuous discussions with Israeli and Lebanese counterparts since the horrific attack yesterday in northern Israel that killed a number of children playing soccer. This attack was conducted by Lebanese Hezbollah. It was their rocket, and launched from an area they control. It should be universally condemned."
The spokesperson highlighted that Hezbollah had started firing on Israel on October 8, claiming solidarity with Hamas, another Iranian-backed group designated as a terrorist organization by the US. The statement reaffirmed the US's "ironclad and unwavering" support for Israel's security against threats from Iran-backed groups, including Hezbollah.
The US is also pursuing a diplomatic solution along the Blue Line, the de facto border between Israel and Lebanon, to end attacks and allow citizens on both sides to safely return to their homes. This effort aims to stabilize the region and prevent further escalations of violence.
