Estonia begins installation of new barriers at border crossing with Russia
Authorities in Estonia have launched construction work to install new security barriers and gates at the Narva border crossing point, which connects the country with Russia.
According to Estonia's public broadcaster ERR, the head of the border checkpoint, Antti Eensalu, confirmed that gates have already been erected on the bridge linking Narva to Russian territory. Additional barriers are planned for all vehicle entry points, as well as other sections of the Estonian-Russian border, Caliber.Az reports.
The Estonian Police and Border Guard Board stated that the project is part of efforts to bolster infrastructure security at the frontier. The construction is expected to be completed by September.
Eensalu explained that the upgrades are intended to enhance the overall security of the border checkpoint. He added that the newly installed gates would improve authorities' ability to manage the situation on the bridge, particularly in scenarios such as a sudden influx of migrants.
