Brunei sultan strips daughter-in-law of royal title
Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah has stripped his daughter-in-law, Pengiran Raabi’atul 'Adawiyah, of her royal title, Pelita Brunei reports.
The outlet said 33-year-old Pengiran Raabi’atul 'Adawiyah, the wife of Prince Abdul Malik, was accused of showing disrespect toward the 80-year-old sultan, the world’s longest-reigning monarch.
He has ruled the country for more than 58 years.
“The title Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri, previously bestowed upon Pengiran Raabi’atul Adawiyah binti Pengiran Haji Bolkiah, wife of Prince Abdul Malik, is hereby revoked with immediate effect,” the report noted.
The statement from the Office of the Grand Chamberlain did not specify what offence the daughter-in-law had committed that was deemed unbecoming of the wife of a member of the royal family.
The sultan’s decision did not affect the titles of her children: 10-year-old Princess Muthia, eight-year-old Princess Fadzilah, six-year-old Princess Khaalishah and 16-month-old Princess Nabila.
