US presses Israel to withdraw troops from Gaza-Egypt border To advance peace talks
US President Joe Biden has urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to pull Israeli troops back from the border between Egypt and the Gaza Strip.
Biden's request, made during a telephone conversation with Netanyahu, is seen as a crucial step to facilitate ongoing negotiations aimed at resolving the Israel-Gaza conflict, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Israeli sources indicate that Netanyahu has agreed to partially comply with Biden's request, with a commitment to withdraw troops from only one of the positions along the border. This partial withdrawal is intended to help advance discussions between Israel and Palestinian groups, including Hamas, with Egypt, Qatar, and the United States acting as mediators.
Another round of negotiations is expected to take place in Cairo on August 25 with Burns, the Prime Minister of Qatar Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and senior officials from Israel and Egypt.
A senior Israeli official said Israel hopes Hamas will respond to the Israeli maps and agree to join the negotiations so the mediators can conduct proximity talks between the parties in real-time and move forward towards a deal.
