Media: Israeli military strikes target Syria’s Damascus
On December 23, media outlets associated with pro-Iranian forces in Iraq reported a series of airstrikes by the Israeli Air Force in Damascus.
If these reports are accurate, it would mark the first Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) strike in Syria in over a week, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported intensive flights by Israeli military aircraft in Quneitra, Daraa, and Damascus. Details are still being clarified.
Israel carried out overnight strikes on Syrian air defence systems and ammunition depots as part of its ongoing effort to weaken the country's military following the recent removal of President Bashar al-Assad.
According to SOHR, Israel targeted military facilities in Syria's coastal Tartous region, including air defence units and surface-to-surface missile depots. The war monitor described the assault as "the heaviest strikes" in the region in over ten years.
During the same night, Israel also targeted locations in and around Damascus, particularly near Mount Qasioun, striking "radar systems" and "air defence systems".
