Vučić: Serbia will chart its own foreign policy course

01 September 2026 15:08

Serbia is seeking European Union membership while maintaining an independent foreign policy based on military neutrality, President Aleksandar Vučić has said.

“We are following the European path, but we are shaping our policy based on the principles of independence, military neutrality, dialogue and developing co-operation in all parts of the world,” Vučić said at a meeting marking the 65th anniversary of the first conference of the Non-Aligned Movement, Russian media reports.

He said countries should unite to defend a “fair and free international order” amid armed conflicts, growing distrust between major powers, disruptions to trade flows and climate change.

The Non-Aligned Movement currently comprises 120 countries, with 17 states and 10 international organisations holding observer status.
