Ukraine urges households to stock up on food, water
Ukrainians have been urged to keep sufficient supplies of drinking water and basic food products at home in case of emergencies.
Oleh Katerenchuk, head of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection in Kyiv, said households should be prepared to cope with potential disruptions.
“First of all, today we should have supplies of drinking water at home. This is essential. We should also have everyday food products that people consume,” Katerenchuk said.
He recommended maintaining enough supplies to last approximately one to one and a half weeks.
Katerenchuk stressed, however, that the precautionary advice does not reflect any current threat of food shortages in Ukraine.
“There is no threat of a food shortage,” he said, adding that the recommendation was intended as a general precaution in the event of an emergency.
