Israel announces capture of senior Hamas member in Gaza
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said a senior Hamas member was captured in the Gaza Strip, following an operation carried out by an Israeli-backed Palestinian militia with Israeli air support.
Katz did not provide details on who carried out the arrest of the Hamas commander, The Times of Israel reports.
Speaking from the Gaza border community of Netiv HaAsara, Katz said Israeli military operations in Gaza City were continuing.
“Even as we stand here, the activity of our forces in Gaza City continues at all times,” Katz said.
“A short while ago, a senior Hamas terrorist was arrested. This is our policy: We do not wait for threats, we pursue Hamas terrorists, thwart them, and destroy their terror infrastructure,” he added.
Meanwhile, Israeli media reported that the detainee is the head of Hamas' General Security Service from Gaza.
