No breakthrough on Patriot missiles for Ukraine, EU foreign policy chief says

01 September 2026 21:05

The European Union has not reached any specific decisions on new deliveries of interceptor missiles for Ukraine’s Patriot air defence systems, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said.

Kallas made the remarks following an informal meeting of EU defence ministers in Ireland, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.

According to Kallas, the ministers discussed the possibility of providing Ukraine with additional Patriot interceptor missiles. However, none of the participating countries made concrete commitments on new deliveries, with Greece and Spain among those yet to pledge additional supplies.

“As for the Patriot missiles, no, we haven’t received any specific decisions today, but there have been calls and discussions about these missiles,” Kallas said.

She stressed that consultations on the issue would continue.

“These discussions will continue, but so far, unfortunately, to no avail,” Kallas added.

The meeting in Ireland was informal and did not result in binding decisions on weapons deliveries.

Kallas also announced that the EU plans to establish a high-level group tasked with responding to emerging military threats, with Ukraine set to participate in the initiative.

Earlier, Kallas said EU member states needed to provide Ukraine with interceptor missiles for its air defence systems.
