Year passes since death of journalists in mine explosion in Kalbajar
A year has passed since Azerbaijani journalists Siraj Abishov (a cameraman for the AzTV channel) and Maharram Ibrahimov (a correspondent of the Azertag news agency), were killed as a result of an anti-tank mine explosion in the Susuzlug village, Kalbajar region.
According to Report, on June 4, 2021, at about 11:00 a.m., a Kamaz car carrying employees of television channels and news agencies who had been on a mission in the Kalbajar region liberated from the occupation, was blown up by an anti-tank mine while moving in the direction of Susuzlug village.
As a result, two employees of mass media and one civil servant were killed and four other people were hospitalized with different injuries.
Maharram Ibrahimov was born on April 16, 1982, in the Ardanish village of Krasnoselsk region (Chambarak region of Goycha), Armenia. In 1989, he went to the first grade of the Ardanysh secondary school. In 1999, he graduated from Baku's secondary school No. 100, and in the same year entered the faculty of journalism of the Higher Public-Political College. In 2003, he graduated from the college, and on July 15, he was called up for active military service by the Binagadi District Military Commissariat. On July 15, 2004, he completed active military service in the Interior Troops of the Interior Ministry.
Maharram worked as a correspondent of the Azerbaijan State News Agency (now Azertag) from September 1, 2004, and as a leading correspondent from January 16, 2007.
On June 4, 2021, on his way to Susuzlug village of Kalbajar District, he died after being blown up by a landmine. The father of two was buried on June 5 next to his parents at the cemetery in the village of Mushfigabad, Absheron District.
By the order of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Maharram Ibrahimov was awarded the Order of Merit to the Fatherland, 3rd degree.
Siraj Abishov was born on August 29, 1989, in the town of Gubadli. He started working for AzTV in 2019.
Sira, who had one child, was buried in the Martyrs' Alley in the city of Sumgayit.
By the order of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Siraj Abishov was awarded the Order of Merit to the Fatherland, 3rd degree.
