Captain killed after drone strike hits Turkish cargo ship off Odesa
The captain of a civilian cargo vessel attacked by a drone off the coast of Odesa, Ukraine, has been killed.
The vessel, Atlas Bey, owned by Turkish company Okean Maritime, was carrying 11 Azerbaijani citizens at the time of the incident. Following the strike, all crew members except the captain were evacuated to shore, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Te captain, Samad Nasrullayev, died as a result of the attack. The information was confirmed by Ilham Nasirov, chairman of the Public Association for Support to Azerbaijani Seafarers.
The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier confirmed the incident, stating that the condition of the rescued crew members was satisfactory and that efforts were underway to locate the captain.
The ministry said all necessary measures were being taken in connection with the incident and to provide assistance to the affected Azerbaijani citizens.
