Minister: Türkiye already performing some duties as gas hub

    ECONOMICS  03 February 2023 - 20:38

Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov has said that Azerbaijan is a traditional supplier of natural gas to the Turkish market, and bilateral relations will further expand in the future.

Shahbazov made these remarks while answering a question about the establishment of a gas centre in Türkiye during a press conference following the ninth ministerial meeting within the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and the first ministerial meeting within the Green Energy Advisory Council in Baku on February 3, according to APA.

He said that at present, Türkiye is already fulfilling some functions of a gas centre, and certain volumes of gas are transported through its territory.

Shahbazov noted that Azerbaijan traditionally supplies gas to the Turkish market.

“Taking into account the fraternal relations between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, it is possible to say that this will further expand relations between the two countries,” the minister said.

He added that the issue of gas transit through Türkiye to the Balkan countries has been resolved.

“There are no problems with transportation to Türkiye. Currently, preparatory work is underway to supply gas to the Balkan countries through Türkiye. There is no need to sign any document related to transit. Once, the corresponding documents related to transit were signed,” Shahbazov noted.
