Afghanistan, Azerbaijan discuss development of Lapis Lazuli corridor
Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of Afghanistan Abdul Ghani Baradar met with Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov in Baku to discuss the development of the Lapis Lazuli transport corridor.
This announcement was made public by Abdul Ghani Baradar on his X page, per Caliber.Az.
The post noted that the head of Azerbaijan’s government expressed readiness to increase the volume of exports and imports with Afghanistan.
“The Lapis Lazuli Corridor is seen as the most promising alternative route for Afghanistan’s foreign trade. The countries located along this corridor represent major markets for key Afghan goods—primarily dried fruits, medicinal herbs, and mineral resources,” the statement said.
The Lapis Lazuli Corridor is a trade and transport route that begins at the ports of Aqina and Torghundi in Afghanistan’s Faryab and Herat provinces, reaches the port of Turkmenbashi in Turkmenistan, crosses the Caspian Sea to Baku in Azerbaijan, passes through Georgia, and continues to Türkiye, ultimately linking to Europe.
Meanwhile, the Alemarah news portal reported that an Afghan delegation arrived in Azerbaijan to participate in the 17th summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
