The Azerbaijan Textile Association (ATA) has signed an agreement for closer cooperation with Tajikistan's corresponding state bodies on the sidelines of an international event dedicated to the textile industry held in the country.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between ATA and Tajikistan's Textile Association during the 1st International Textile Forum and the Textile Equipment Exhibition that is currently taking place in the Tajik capital of Dushanbe, Caliber.Az reports citing a statement by Azerbaijan's investment promotion agency (AZPROMO).

“The document provides for joint efforts to develop the textile industry, including sustainable agriculture, sericulture, and trade,” the statement reads.

The forum, which brought together participants from over 50 countries, featured discussions on strengthening ties between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan in the textile sector, as well as the development of an industrial cooperation roadmap between the two countries.

As part of the visit, Azerbaijan's delegation, which included the Head of AZPROMO, Yusif Abdullayev and the CEO of ATA Farida Akhundova, also met with the Deputy Minister of Industry and New Technologies of Tajikistan, Aziz Nazar and the Chairman of the Tajik Cotton and Textile Association, Umed Shomurodov. The meeting focused on the current state of industrial cooperation and prospects for its further development.

The Azerbaijani envoys also held talks with Christian Schindler, Director General of the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF), and David Maccabruni, President of the Swiss Textile Machinery Manufacturers Association. The sides exchanged views on the benefits of Azerbaijan’s potential ITMF membership, the application of advanced technologies in production, and regional partnerships.

In the course of the meeting, the ITMF representatives were invited to Baku for future industry-related events in Azerbaijan.

The manufacturing of textiles and cotton plays a major role in the Tajik economy, with Tajik Industry and New Technologies Minister Sherali Kabir telling the forum participants that exports had amounted to approximately $300 million in 2024.
