World Bank grants Azerbaijan $2 million for urban resilience project in Baku
The World Bank (WB) has awarded a grant of up to $2 million to the Azerbaijani government for the preparation of the Livable Baku project, aimed at improving the urban environment and enhancing infrastructure resilience to disasters and climate risks in the capital.
According to the WB data, the funding is provided through the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), a WB's structural arm, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
The grant will be used to prepare a feasibility study, conduct research on the reclamation of polluted natural lakes, clean up oil-contaminated areas, and design solid waste management infrastructure, including landfills and transfer stations.
An environmental impact assessment is also planned as part of the project preparation phase.
The grant will cover consulting services, training, operational expenses, and will finance 100% of eligible costs, including taxes.
The technical assistance is valid until December 31, 2026, with Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Economy serving as the implementing agency.
