President: Philippines ready to work with Azerbaijan in addressing global challenges
Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos has said that his country is ready to work with Azerbaijan in addressing global challenges of common concern.
Marcos made the remarks in a congratulatory letter sent to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azertag.
“On behalf of the people and government of the Republic of the Philippines, I wish to convey my warmest felicitations to you on the occasion of the national holiday of Azerbaijan – Independence Day.
The Philippines and Azerbaijan have enjoyed cordial ties in the last three decades. I am optimistic that our nations will continue to enjoy friendly relations in the years ahead.
The Philippines stands ready to work with Azerbaijan in addressing global challenges of common concern, such as climate change, energy security, and post-pandemic recovery.
Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration,” the letter reads.
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of the Philippines were established on the 27th of March 1992.
The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Philippines has been active since 2013 (with residence in Jakarta, Indonesia).
During his recent visit (April 3-5) to Manila, Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov said that Azerbaijan wants to "reinvigorate" bilateral relations" with the Philippines as it aims to explore possible deeper cooperation in various fields such as culture, tourism, trade and energy.
On April 4, political consultations were held between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines for the first time. The political consultations were led by Azerbaijan's Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov and the Philippines' Deputy Foreign Minister Mrs. Tereza Lazaro.
At the end of the consultations, the signing ceremony of the first intergovernmental document "Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of culture between the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the National Commission for Culture and Arts of the Republic of the Philippines" was held.
