Construction of 39 road tunnels underway in Azerbaijan's Karabakh, East Zangazur regions VIDEO

Azerbaijan is building 39 road tunnels with a total length of 66 km within the road infrastructure projects to be implemented in Karabakh and East Zangazur economic regions.

The regions will play an important role in the socio-economic development of the territories liberated from the Armenian occupation, Caliber.Az reports, citing the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads.

As reported, 7 tunnels with a total length of 12,690.6 metres are being built on the Ahmadbayli-Fuzuli-Shusha highway; 7 tunnels with a total length of 2,358 m on the Khudafarin-Gubadli-Lachin highway; on the Horadiz-Jabrayil-Zangilan-Aghband highway - 3 tunnels with a length of 12,032.79 metres; on the Toganali-Kalbajar-Istisu highway - 5 tunnels with a total length of 25,926.97 metres; on the Kalbajar-Lachin highway - 17 tunnels with a length of 12,964.61 metres.

The construction of the Ahmadbayli-Fuzuli-Shusha road is scheduled to be completed in 2024. The highway is being built with 4-6 traffic lanes in line with the first technical grade. Thus, the first 48 kilometres of the road consist of six lanes, while the next 48 to 81.6 kilometres have four traffic lanes. The road bed is 29.5 and 21.5 metres wide, respectively.

According to the agency, the Khudafarin-Gubadli-Lachin highway will be 56,4 kilometres long, beginning at a section of the Hajigabul-Horadiz-Aghband-Zangazur highway and ending near the Khudaferin reservoir. This road will connect more than 30 settlements, including Gubadli and Lachin cities, passing through the territories of Zangilan, Gubadli and Lachin regions. As for the Toganali-Kalbajar-Istisu highway, it is connecting Goygol and Kalbajar districts. The road is 56 km long in the Toganali-Kalbajar segment and 26 km long in the Kalbajar-Istisu section. In the Toganali-Kalbajar section, the construction of the Murovdag tunnel, which will be one of the longest automobile tunnels in the world, is underway.
