Finland faces growing concern over potential US tariffs
Finland's Prime Minister Petteri Orpo has said that the situation regarding the potential imposition of tariffs by the US on imports from the EU member states is very serious.
"It is a very serious situation. We have already seen that he [U.S. President Donald Trump] is also making his trade and political threats. Now, it is important to act united within the EU, coordinate actions, and carefully consider our negotiating position," he said, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
US President Donald Trump previously cautioned BRICS nations against replacing the US dollar as a reserve currency, reiterating his threat of imposing 100 per cent tariffs, a warning he first issued weeks after his victory in the November presidential election.
"We are going to require a commitment from these seemingly hostile Countries that they will neither create a new BRICS Currency, nor back any other Currency to replace the mighty U.S. Dollar or, they will face 100% Tariffs," Trump said on Truth Social.
Russia stated that any US effort to force countries to use the dollar would backfire. The BRICS group, which consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, along with a few other nations that joined in recent years, does not have a shared currency. However, discussions on the matter have gained traction, particularly after Western sanctions were imposed on Russia due to the war in Ukraine.
