Russian space researchers record strongest solar flare since July 7

The strongest solar flare in more than two weeks was recorded on July 22, according to Russia's Institute of Space Research (IKI) in the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Scientists at the institute's Laboratory of Solar Astronomy said, in a post on Telegram, the flare occurred at 09:35 Moscow time and marked the most powerful event since July 7, Caliber.Az reports.

The flare comes amid a broader increase in solar activity over the past 24 hours.

Researchers said around 20 solar flares had been recorded during that period, compared with an average of just one or two per day three days earlier.
