Germany to expand Bundeswehr division tasked with protecting critical infrastructure

Germany plans to expand a Bundeswehr division responsible for protecting the country's critical infrastructure, according to DPA.

The division, which was established last year, is tasked with homeland security and plays a key role in safeguarding critical infrastructure, including ports, airports, bridges, railway lines and energy facilities.

Its responsibilities also include ensuring the deployment of allied forces across Germany and providing support to civilian authorities during natural disasters and other emergencies.

Under the expansion plan, the division's strength is expected to grow from the currently planned 6,500 personnel to well over 10,000 troops by 2035.
