Pakistan, EU back diplomacy over Iran tensions

Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, met European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas on the sidelines of the 33rd ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) in Manila, Pakistan's Foreign Ministry said.

According to the ministry, Kallas recalled her recent visit to Islamabad for the eighth round of the Pakistan-EU Strategic Dialogue, while both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing cooperation under the Pakistan-EU Strategic Engagement Plan.

The two leaders also exchanged views on regional developments, stressing that sustained diplomacy remains the only viable and durable path to peace and stability, particularly in relation to the US-Iran situation.

They discussed the wider implications of regional tensions for security, global energy markets, maritime security, trade and supply chains, underscoring the importance of continued dialogue and adherence to international law.

Dar reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to the effective implementation of all international conventions underpinning the EU's GSP+ trade framework and highlighted the importance Islamabad attaches to its economic partnership with the European Union, the ministry added.
