Italian police investigate murder of sports journalist Luigi Esposito

Italian police are investigating the murder of sports journalist Luigi Esposito.

The body of the 53-year-old journalist was discovered by firefighters on the night of July 19 in a rural area near Eboli. His identity was confirmed through a car registered in his name, Italian media reports.

Shell casings were found at the scene, but forensic experts believe Esposito was not shot. Investigators say he was apparently beaten, suffering multiple fractures, before being set on fire. An autopsy found no gunshot wounds, while final conclusions are expected after laboratory tests.

Authorities have ruled out a link between the killing and Esposito’s professional activities and are investigating a possible personal motive. Police are searching for the murder weapon and examining surveillance footage, although there are no cameras in the area where the body was found.
