Fear of Moscow-Pyongyang cooperation brings Tokyo, Washington, and Seoul closer

Tokyo, Washington, and Seoul fear cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang, which could allegedly disrupt peace and stability in the Indian and Pacific Ocean region, TASS reported citing a Japanese Foreign Ministry statement.

"The sides exchanged views on the current situation around North Korea, including the recent summit between Russia and North Korea. Regarding this summit, they expressed concern that future cooperation between Russia and North Korea may involve the violation of UN Security Council resolutions," the Japanese Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The statement refers to a resolution on banning the transfer of weapons and related materials to North Korea. The message of the Japanese Foreign Ministry was published after the talks between the Director of the Department of Asia and Oceania of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan Namazu Hiroyuki, the US Special Representative for North Korea Sung Kim, and the Special Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea for Peace and Security Kim Gon.
