Over 2,500 trucks queue at Polish-Ukrainian border

03 December 2023 15:57

More than 2,500 trucks are waiting in line at the Polish-Ukrainian border to travel to Ukraine.

“As of this morning, according to the information that Polish border guards tell us, there are more than 2,500 cargo vehicles in queues towards Ukraine,” representative of the Ukrainian State Border Service Andrey Demchenko said on the Rada TV channel, TASS reports.

According to his information, most of the trucks have gathered in the direction of the checkpoint “Rava-Russkaya - Khrebene” - 850, 600 are standing at the checkpoints “Krakovets - Korcheva” and “Medyka - Shegini”, 450 trucks are waiting for passage at the checkpoint “Yagodin - Dorohusk”.

According to Demchenko, traffic is very slow - several cars per hour. On December 2, Demchenko reported 2.4 thousand trucks in line.

At the same time, in the morning, the State Border Service of Ukraine reported that two more checkpoints on the border with Poland - “Smilnitsa - Kroscenko” and “Nizhankovichi - Malchowice” - were not working. It is reported that the cause was a malfunction of the customs database.

On November 6, Polish carriers blocked three main checkpoints on the border with Ukraine: Yagodin - Dorohusk, Krakovets - Korchewa and Rava Russkaya - Hrebene.

On November 23, a fourth - "Medyka - Shegini" - was added to them. Truck drivers are forced to stand in miles-long queues for days. Some are trying to find detours, which leads to traffic jams in neighbouring countries.

Negotiations with protesters have not yet led to results. They demand the cancellation of benefits granted by the EU to carriers from Ukraine, the restoration of the previous procedure for compulsory licensing of Ukrainian commercial freight transport and the annulment of permits issued to Ukrainian transport companies after February 24 last year.

On December 1, it was reported in Kyiv that the Polish side agreed to allow empty trucks to pass through the Ugrinov-Dolgobychev checkpoint.
