Aliyev, Mirziyoyev visit Poi-Kalyan complex in Bukhara
Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, together with Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and First Lady Ziroatkhon Mirziyoyeva, visited the historic Poi-Kalyan complex in Bukhara on August 24.
The presidents and their family members toured the landmark complex, which is one of Bukhara’s most important historical and religious sites, Caliber.Az reports via Azertag.
The name of the complex means “the pedestal of the Great.” One of its main monuments, the Kalyan Minaret, was built in 1127.
The Kalyan Mosque is the largest mosque in Bukhara. Constructed in the 16th century, the mosque can accommodate up to 12,000 worshippers at a time.
The Mir-i Arab Madrasah, located within the complex, is a religious educational institution. The madrasah was built in the 16th century by Abdullah Yamani, also known as Mir-i Arab.
