Aliyev receives Overchuk: Moscow thanks Baku for helping evacuate Russian citizens from Iran PHOTO

On March 2, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received a Russian delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Commission Alexey Overchuk.

During the meeting, the Russian side expressed sincere gratitude to the Azerbaijani leadership for its prompt assistance in evacuating Russian citizens from the Islamic Republic of Iran amid a complex and tense regional situation, according to Azertag.

The meeting saw a detailed exchange of views on the Azerbaijani-Russian bilateral agenda.

The discussion highlighted that, in line with the agreements reached by the leaders of Azerbaijan and Russia during their meeting in Dushanbe on October 9, 2025, both sides will soon implement a series of practical measures to address the issues arising from the AZAL airline plane crash on December 25, 2024.

The meeting emphasised a mutual commitment to further advancing mutually beneficial trade, economic, investment, industrial, and transport-logistics cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia.

Prospects for the development of regional transport communications were also reviewed, and both sides reaffirmed their shared intention to continue work on the development of the International North–South Transport Corridor.

Humanitarian issues were discussed as well.

The talks were held in a friendly and constructive atmosphere, reflecting the traditional spirit of the Azerbaijani-Russian intergovernmental dialogue.
