Analyst calls Armenia's current position "challenging" as it keeps changing rapidly

22 February 2024 17:24

Armen Manvelyan, an expert in international law and politics, has said that Armenia's current position is challenging as it keeps changing rapidly, making it hard to grasp or predict.

"In the current situation, it is very difficult to understand Armenia's position, and this is because its position is constantly changing. What you notice can shift rapidly,” Caliber.Az quotes him as saying in an interview with Armenian media.

"However, the fact remains that the document of November 9 (Trilateral Statement - ed.) was indeed cancelled. This was done, first of all, by the will of the current political leadership of Armenia. The Armenian authorities have abandoned this document in all its denial. That is, by cancelling it all, they also stated that it was allegedly done by a second or third party. In reality, we have a situation that this denial led to the current situation. This is the result, to put it mildly, of the wrong policy of today's political administration.

Basically, they are on the way to worsening relations with Armenia's main allied countries, Iran and Russia, which creates additional risks. Armenia's security was not in such a bad state even during the 44-day war. And first of all, because today the confrontation between Russia and the West, with the light hand of the current authorities, is taking place in the centre of Yerevan.

As for the meetings in Munich, Armenia has always held meetings at the level of secretaries of state, even during the so-called "former" times. However, when the Prime Minister of a country meets with the head of British intelligence in the same Munich, it is a very bad precedent. Because it is not the same level. It also means that Armenia is simply starting to be governed from the outside, and this is not about good relations. It is about the policy of colonisation of Armenia," the expert said.
