Iran denies US election interference claims Demands evidence from Washington

19 September 2024 18:18

Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Amir Saeed Iravani expressed bewilderment over the US intelligence agencies’ claims that Tehran allegedly interfered in the US presidential election.

Iravani emphasised that these claims have no basis, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.

“These allegations are baseless and lack any credibility and legitimacy. The Islamic Republic of Iran does not interfere in internal political conflicts and electoral controversies in the US. As we have repeatedly and clearly stated, Iran had no motive or intention to interfere in the US elections and we strongly reject such accusations,” the diplomat said.

Iravani demanded that the US authorities back up their accusations with evidence to get a clear response from Tehran.

According to the envoy, the more Washington talks about Iranian interference, the more baseless these claims become.

To recap, on September 18, US agencies said that Iranian hackers allegedly sent emails containing stolen material from Republican former President Donald Trump’s campaign to people involved in Democratic President Joe Biden’s then re-election campaign, part of an alleged broader effort by Tehran to influence the US election.

“Iranian malicious cyber actors have continued their efforts since June to send stolen, non-public material associated with former President Trump’s campaign to US media organizations,” the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, and Office of the Director of National Intelligence said in a joint statement.

“This malicious cyber activity is the latest example of Iran’s multi-pronged approach … to stoke discord and undermine confidence in our electoral process,” the agencies claimed.
